The importance of moving with Fitness and Strength

Uncategorized Mar 27, 2020

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when I say the word ‘moving,’ or ‘movement?’

I’ll bet you’d thought of words about exercise... say jogging, working out, or sweating like a pig (Okay, maybe not that last one but you know I just HAD to do that!).

But moving is so much MORE.

In my many years as a fitness professional, I’ve come to realize that developing a body that moves well is the ticket to - FINALLY-  feel efficient, courageous, and liberated. When we move well, we also think, feel and live well.

I’ve watched a lot of people lose a lot of weight. And yes, they look good on the beach in their bathing suits, but that’s not really the best thing I see (even though it’s a STELLAR reason for celebration!).

The thing that excites me the most is hearing these people express feeling that they are living better on the daily. They notice things like:

  • Having more energy
  • Being able to do things they haven’t in a long time
  • Feeling empowered
  • Freedom from many anxieties and limiting beliefs that held them back

So here’s your Fit + Strong Tool of the week: Move Your Body.

Wherever and whenever you can, get up and move. Every opportunity you have, move it! No matter where you’re starting, the more you move, the better your physical body will function and the better your emotional body will feel. Movement does more than just ‘get us into shape.’ No matter where you’re starting, the more you move, the better your body will function.

Movement tells our bodies:

  • To use our stored energy
  • To use extra energy for repair, rather than storing it as fat
  • To strengthen muscles, tendons, ligaments, and bones, and
  • To clear and remove waste products

And improved body functions ensure you’ll be able to move well and:

  • Climb stairs/ hills
  • Step over obstacles cleanly
  • Carry groceries
  • Stand up from sitting, or get up from the floor
  • Grip and hold objects like a hammer or heavy jars
  • Pull or drag things like a full garbage can or wheelbarrow
  • Push things like a heavy door
  • Walk an excitable dog

Remember: You don’t have to ‘work out’ to move. Put your focus on moving your body as much as you can throughout your day. Stand up more, walk around more, stretch more. If you’ll do this one simple thing every day you will experience exponential, expanding, and far-reaching benefits.

So find out what ‘healthy movement’ looks like to YOU, and move it! The more we can with confidence and capability, the fitter and stronger we’ll be. Even better, we’ll do more. That leads to more fitness. And this righteous cycle continues. To this we say... WooHOO! ;-)

Warmly,

DeAnne
